Of Marriage & Men

I had dinner with Stephanie over the weekend. A time for good laughs...catching up with old times...but also a time for self reflection.

Dinner at Dubliner's Irish Pub was a laid back affair...the right amount of drinks and a delicious Shephard's Pie set the mood for a bouyant EPL game between Birmingham City and my beloved Leeds...sadly the final score didnt reflect my enthusiasm...

I was bemoaning to Stephanie bout my single status...you see...Stephanie's happily married...so i figured a lady of her status would be able to figure out my predicament...

Oh...she figured it out in spades...but i digress...i must have turned my hair white just wonderin why women wouldnt wana go out with me...

Apparently i've done something to upset you At my age...the women i date tend to be the marryin kind...and suffice to say...i'm not in a position to marry...cant argue with those women's ovaries though...women on average marry at the age of 25...compared to 27 for men...but that statistic alone befuddles me...i wonder if the scientists have gotten it all wrong...for the stigma of 'needing to procreate' seem to lie in the women!

Why am i...or many men in general...arent in any hurry to marry?

After 25 years of living in this wonderful planet i have noticed a few things...One...Singaporeans cant speak English to save their souls...Two...Nora Jones ala elevator music gets really annoyin after a while...and finally Three...the entire concept of marriage is over rated! Walk along the aisle of 'Self Help' in any major bookshops and you'll stumble across books with prosaic names such as "Idiots guide to True Love" and "What makes you Marryable?"...how revolutionary! and indeed...awe inspiring! I suppose women must have been walkin along those aisles their entire lives waitin for such books to change their facet of life.

What is it with this aspect of society? We have to get married? What will happen if we dont? Do singles get shunned because they've not taken the leap of faith? Must we conform to the majority and be dictated by a piece of paper? What about couples that love each other, get along, but dont get married? Should they get married? If yes, what are they waitin for?

Maybe they're not waitin at all. Maybe they're secure in themselves that they can lie their entire lives out without this so called certification...which if you ask me as a societal standard sets people up for a little thing most of us have come to know as Divorce. Disagree do you? Let us trace the steps of a fictitious story:

- Girl ages
- Girl is in her late 20s
- Woman sees other women friends with male friends
- Other male friends have secure jobs and are able to buy engagement rings
- Males friends have proposed to most of the woman's friends
- Woman's friends ask "So when are you gettin married?"
- Woman's parents ask "So when are you gettin married?"
- Women askes her boyfriend of 8 months "So when are we gettin married?"
- Boyfriend closes all savings accounts and 'surprises' Woman with marriage proposal
- They get married
- Three years later woman yells "why did i ever marry you?!" as she holds her 2yo daughter in her arms.

Classic case of a Mills and Boons love tale gone awry.

Didn't you get my email?Fact of the matter is if you marry someone...good on yer mate...what you have done is truly commendable and i have respect for you...i know if im ever in a position to make that decision i'd hafta have reached a certain level of personal comfort and lifestyle...Singaporean women just dont let up and are as demandin as our Government goes...

I dont know if i'll ever marry...as far as guys go im just about as eligible as Jude Law minus the wealth...will it always be this way? Of coz not...i would love the find someone i can come home to take my crap..listen to my day's woes...and give me a big loving hug...

Until then...for me and all those that are reaching over to the empty portions of their beds...let things fall into place...

Late

Crikes...i arrived late in the office today...was at the receivin end of a minor verbal backlash from my superior...my week didnt start off right...

To cap it all off...i encountered several difficult problems which required my immediate attention...and impatient colleagues didnt help lighten my burden...

Geeezz...welcome to the real world John...

Biase

So here I am reading CNN.com like I do everyday, and I see an ad for John Kerry, a presidential candidate. Screenshot. Personally, I think that news should be impartial, and the fact that CNN allows political advertising on their news site is despicable. These were just my first thoughts. I went on to consider how much effect the media really has over us. Sure, we can all sit here and say, "The media doesn't affect me." But the very notion of that sentence is ridiculous. That sentence, itself, reveals that the speaker is indeed affected by the media, so much that he cannot stand it. We are all affected by the media, because we all see it. It is in our schools, on our TV's, at our sporting events. I think you get the picture. Ok, back to news networks. Let's say that I own CNN, ok? Let's also put on the table that I am a right wing (or left wing) pansy ass who can't think for himself. I have gross power over the world, because everyone watches/sees CNN, its ridiculous. By letting John Kerry advertise on my site, I am telling the world that I support John Kerry. People will listen to that, because hey, its CNN. Sometime when you are bored, read the same story on several different news networks. You will get a very different take on it each time. You might be asking why right about now, well I'm going to tell you. Because the people who own the networks tell their writers which side of the political asshole we call a system to support. What happened to reporting the facts?

My take? You want biased reporting...go watch USA Fox News..or for local news...just read The Straits Times...you want unadulterated news with a fair angle...read alot...watch alot...and understand the systems of the media...no one channel is purely unbiased...

Survivor Pulau Tekong: Outwit, Outplay and Outlast

The 3 Malaysian robbers who had the nation enthralled with their Pulau Tekong escapades were finally arrested - the first on Friday evenin, and within six hours of each other, the other two were finally found on Saturday.

It took the combined forces of 700 Special Task Squadron, Guardsmen, reconnaissance troops and Gurkhas to comb the island of 24.4 sq km before finding the elusive robbers. The saga lasted 56 hours.

Call me a pessimist, but 700 troops to find 3 men? If this is Singapore's intent to show Malaysia how efficient and overwhelmingly strong the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is then i think the Malaysians got that point. Not that the Malaysians were too bothered by the pursuit anyway...they had their National Elections goin on...and without an imcumbent national party (read: Singapore) the Malaysians had an interestin race...

Singapore Map But you've gota hand it to the 3 robbers. I mean...how stupid are they? Of all the places you run to you simply have to choose Singapore's most defended island where conscripts are picked off against their will for Nationalistic trainin...You've got to be as clueless as a Bob Harris (read: white man in a no-english speakin Asian country ala Bill Murray in his almost-there performance in Lost in Translation...shame on you Oscars for not givin him the statue...)

I dont suppose Malaysians read the newspapers..have Singaporean friends...or clean their ears...every month or so SAF conducts military trainin that borders on downright molestation of Malaysia's space...the artillery guns are fired near the Kranji and Seletar areas facing the Singapore straits as a demonstration of SAF might...on a clear day any Malaysians with a pair of binoculars can spy the Singapore artillery formation go about their silly hullaballoo...

As if the Malaysians care...3rd fugitive being led outcoz though they dont have compulsory conscription...their uniforms are a bright blue and yellow hue...now who needs artillery fire when they have that? Enemies will just die laughing...

Then again who am i to criticise the Malaysian policies? As a naturalised Singaporean it wasnt too long ago when i would still wield the Malaysian Identity Card as a means to get around...suspicious Malaysians would always geme the 'WTF are you' look coz my Mandarin's really dodgy...doesnt have the Malaysian accent and i dont speak Malay at all...

It'll be interestin to see how the events unfold over the next few days...i can so see PAP gloatin on it's ego-inflated PAP-owned Straits Times over the efficiency and alarming overwhelming number of men it deployed to capture 3 allegedly armed men...with the aftermath of the Malaysian elections still not sinkin into our Northerly neighbours this'll be a great time for Malaysia to feel PAP's wrath...cowerin into a corner they will not...but rest assured we've not heard the last of the 3 robbers...

Beauty of life...and friends...

The Indulge crew celebrated Kimi's birthday yesterday.

Kimi's the Advertising/PR guy of the Indulge website...he's one of the most down-to-earth bloke ive came across...a genuinely likeable person who doesnt mind being teased at...the crew...Patricia the Editor...Song the founder of Indulge and 'sometimes' Finance guy...Zhen 'Spindoctor' Han our resident DJ and events guy...Kimi...and the 2 regular contributors...Chloe and i...had assembled at Great World City for an evenin rendezvous...

Strangely enough...Patricia's idea of a dinner was a this quaint little cafe that offered tiny portions of sandwiches which were microwaved ('nuff said)...limp strands of pasta that i could feed a dog with...and save for a couple whisperin sweet nothings to each other...an empty cafe for us to babble away...notice i didnt even mention the cafe's name...

Coffee at Spinelli's after was more enjoyable...i bought the entire crew a round of coffee...and the morons couldnt stop hecklin at John-in-Saatchi issue...all in good fun though...Kimi had to blow a candle out from his tiramisu...we exchanged some life stories...lots of good laughs...and found out a little more bout each other...

Goin home...i reflected on the evenin's event...and couldnt help but smile to myself...the Indulge crew is truly an eclectic bunch of folks...Kimi's still doin National Service in the Navy...but he's wise beyond his years...currently jobless Patricia's been in the media industry for years...she's written for many publications and i look up to her for the way she is now and what she has contributed to the local clubbin industry...quirky Song is a business student who has grand plans to be the next Nick Leeson minus the Barings Bank incident (LOL)...Zhen Han...while not spinnin records in his free time...is studyin to be a doctor...dainty little Chloe took a year off from her Law studies in Nottingham to...eh...hang around in Singapore....and lastly...yours truly...a social misfit with enough 'Get out of Jail' cards to rival seasoned sociopaths...workin in an advertising MNC...

Isnt it a wonder how different people from different walks of life converge together at one point of their lives and just...well...mingle? We're like little chess pieces on a giant chess board...the world is our playground...one wrong move and we wouldnt have met each other...a miscalculated step could end in 'victory' or 'defeat'...

Life is such a wonderful thing...most times it could be a real bitch...the thousands of worries a life has to undertake in his 70+ years of existence...it could all be washed away for an hour or two...when you're with the right company...the laughters and the little stories...we're peeling away tiny layers of ourselves...like an onion...or a bloomin flower...

“Make new friends and keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.”...Maybe you sang this song when you were a kid...What you may not have known back then is that friendship can make your life better...Friends understand who you are and what makes you tick..maybe better than you understand yourself....Having friends can improve your physical and mental health...Talking to friends can help relieve stress...A good friend makes a great fitness partner...and having dinner with a close friend is more fun than eating alone.

I swear by this mantra: "Be a friend to have a friend. Keep in touch by phone, email, or the old-fashioned way, regular mail. Invite a friend over to share a meal or a cup of tea. Go out of your way to help a friend in need. Plan activities together that are purely fun – go bowling, get makeovers, visit the zoo, take a day trip. And share your good times and bad with a friend. Having someone to talk to will make you feel better and look better."

A life is precious...and so are his friends...when your chips are down...no matter how forlorn your life takes you...do not fret...take another step forward...you'll never know where it'll take you...for chances are...you'll make a life-enhancin decision...

"It's rainin rain...hallelujah it's rainin rain..."

Wet n Wild This has been the scene that greets Singaporeans when they head out for lunch for the last few days. Extended lunch hours...traffic jams...clothes that refuses to dry...and when they do...they smell real bad...

The reason the Singapore Meteorologist gave was just bout a slap to regular peeps' business and daily-goings..."No Can Do" we cry...but what can we do about the monsoon season that coincides with high tides...

Caucasian men...their women...and beauty...

While commutin to work this mornin...a talkshow topic piqued my interest...

The triumvirate of The FD (or Flying Dutchman for those not in the know), Glenn Ong and Rod Monteiro have just officially outdid themselves again...just when i thought the Class 95 crew has ran out of ideas to talk about...they chose to bring up a 2 days old Straits TImes article ...

A casual read durin lunch time on Monday sparked "He's gona draw lots of flak with this"...

An intent listen this mornin triggered "These boys are now in the crosshairs of millions of men" (weapons sold seperately)...

A flurry of text messages and irate phonecalls interspersed with usual mornin music made my mornin commute...drabby and dull most times... a genuinely good experience...we had the typical Singaporean men with bad english callin in to defend their sex...women who decided to make 10 March 'Men Bashing Day'...and surprise surprise...some who sound suspiciously like SPGs...phoney accent and all...

Outspoken Glenn upped the ante when...as FD said...'he had his foot in his mouth'...Glenn began an extended and uncut tongue-lashing of Caucasians (ang-mohs...as he called it) who date UGLY Asian women...

Glenn...as most avid media tabloid whores would know...has been seein Perfect 10 DJ Jamie Yeo for bout 2 years now...anyone with an appreciation for women would tell you that Jamie's a very attractive woman...heck a blind donkey would tell you that...and although ive never really agreed with everythin Glenn has said...the tirade he launched into reduced me into peals of silent laughter...

Now i dont have a problem with Caucasian men comin to Singapore with their fat egos and paychecks...neither do i have a problem with them fuckin our women...by all means...knock yaselves out...i just fail to understand why most Caucasian men would date...imho...genuinely unattractive women....barely passable species of women who're fit for a lifetime of abuse and spinsterhood...

These women would never ever secure a date with a William Hung-esque man..let alone a man...somehow i wonder whether these women have been pushed into desperation...most are the protaganist of 'Never Been Kissed' and/or 'Never Been Fucked'...shunned by the local men...who wouldnt even give them a second glance...their self-confidence rockets sky-high when they are invited out for a date by a Caucasian men...who strangely...have rather warped conception of how an attractive Asian women should look...most Caucasian men almost always date a ghastly cousin of a Pontianak...grotesquely ugly Asian women...flat nose...single-eyelid...small eyes...and full lips...ewww...

I suggest all Caucasian men read this article on ...what an attractive Asian woman really looks like before they head on down to memory lane...they really do need to open their damn eyes...

Well i cant say anythin bout the kids they'll have...coz...as the author of the Beauty Distribution Curve quotes..."Halfies are super hot."

All systems go...

Booga! What a relief...my good mates have been a god-send...kudos to Hans and Seb for their feedbacks...and Vowel Man for some in-depth 'analysis' of my blog and introduction to a new image website ...thanks to the 3 of u my pictures are up and runnin...

Bout damn time too...now back to some serious bloggin...

Hi!

life-drawing

Life is like a paintin isnt it?

At times the colors can be really vivid...striking various kinds of imaginations and thoughts...relivin memories of bygones past...tears of laughter and joy...

Yet sometimes life can be incredibly cruel...bitin u when u least need it...a rabies-ridden wound slowly chewin and gnawin away at your exposed visceral...

I cant say if my life is worthwhile at the moment...at times i just wana laugh at the way things are now....it brings new meaning to 'double-whammy'...

This is gona be the way my life would be for the next few weeks due to:
1) The virus 'my doom' and various trojans has afflicted my PC...renderin it useless until i get my good friend Ramani to service it...but due to his exams commitments i'll be lookin at early-April before i get to use my PC again...

2) For all those who've been followin...my TV hasnt been replaced...no signs of a new TV in the near horizon...

For all of that...my weekends are now relegated to:

1) Wake up at watever time.....

2) Breakfast/lunch

3) Stares longingly at PC and TV...

4) Goes back to sleep...

5) Wakes up in the late afternoon...flips open my comics...

6) Awaits a phonecall from the boys before headin out...

7) No phonecall? A trip to HMV for some cd buyin....

My weekends are even duller than my weekdays....i look forward to work even when friday draws to a close...

Thursday, March 4

I might hate you...

...if you work in U2/Giordanos/Bossini/Hang Ten or any of the cheap boutiques we commonly see in shoppin malls...

giordanoThe fact of the matter is, it's just wrong for people to be that cheerful...it's a brand of cheerfulness that is usually accompanied by a cross-dressing serial killer alter ego, and I'm threatened by that...sometimes...all a man wants to do is window shop with a fuckin frown...I don't need your freaky enthusiasm and sunny, "Welcome to *insert name of cheap boutique here*! HI!" I've been here enough times to know that you're a menace to society, lady....and let's not even get started on the men who greet you with a giant megawatt smile...gay i am not...

Some people may wonder why I go to *insert distressin cheap boutique here* in the first place if their employees make me want to drown kittens in lava...these people are probably not aware that *insert cheap boutique with killer designs* provides the kinda of uniform look that most Singaporeans love to proudly show...gag me please...i dont need another 'tee shirt and jeans' attire....so it's obvious that there is no way around dealing with these people.

They also have the distressing tendency to halt business as usual and chat amongst themselves at random intervals.... displayin their very entertainin form of English which makes my head hurts...once i was even privy to some Ah-Lians burstin into song when some stupid ching-chong song came on the radio...banging their paddles on the counter to provide a uniquely painful percussional accompaniment...

Service in Singapore...geezz..

One day...

One day i shall stop sharin my room with a man (Ken) and find a woman to serenade me to sleep...

One day i shall stop sharin my bed with a woman (a she-teddy bear from an ex-gf) and find a man to...ehm...bring out the masculinity in me...

One day i shall stop being so full of myself and start considerin how my words and actions hurt the people around me...

One day i shall stop being so considerate and ask myself how many people have hurt my feelings...

One day i shall stop being such an unfillial son and being the good and proper child my parents had hoped i would be...

One day i shall stop being such a well-mannered son with relatives around when they clearly never liked my disposition...

So many thoughts and feelings...one life to lead...
24 hours a day can be too short...yet it's how you live it...not why u live it...

Monday, March 1

Life fuckin sucks...

This is the final straw...my TV has not been replaced for almost 3 months...and my PC has been afflicted with some weird trojans...

No Angel/Buffy/Sex in the City/Everybody Loves Raymond/ MTV/Star World/Football....and now...no Warcraft/CM4/at home blogging/at home chattin/at home porn surfin...

.....................................................

Life totally sucks now...nothin can beat the severity of my pathetic state...totally cut off from the outside world...

And all i have to turn to at home? My comics...and my music...

Actually...it isnt so bad after all...lol...
