Expensive Lodging

Prices of housing in Melbourne have skyrocketed in the
last 12 months...hittin a high in the middle of the year and droppin slightly in September...

It's not just the market value of a house that's fluctuated...as a proud home renter (haha?) ive seen the rent in my leafy Northern suburb drop to 2/3 of my current lease...which infuriates me as i question the need to pay more than my neighbors...compared to prices in comparable suburbs...residents like us are either extremely rich (which questions the need to rent)...or extremely stupid (which questions the rent we're currently payin)...the moment my lease ends...i'll haggle for a new (and cheaper) rent...

Buyin is not a viable option for most young couples (either newly married or in a de-facto relationship)...in the long run buyin a property will always outweigh any initial outlay a rented property...it's more economically viable and in Australia...the relaxed rules allows a proud homeowner to lease out his/her home after only 6 months of ownership...which essentially negates the need to pay for upkeepin...as the rent will cover that...

As my relationship with micheLe matures...we do at times...look at our options...she is comfortably settled in the city...i do have a long way to go before returnin to Asia (then again...it's Singapore...that's reason enough not to return)...unlike her...im totally dependant on how my grades and job status go...my Singaporean predecessors have tried unsuccessfully to negotiate a residency in Australia after graduation...only to be turned away as they expect to be handed the residency on a silver platter...in rare cases...the only Singaporeans who succeed are the filthy rich ones who can literally 'buy' a residency (perhaps they abhor the island city just as much as i do)...

Oh well...such is life isnt it...the rich gets richer (without movin a limb)...and the poor gets poorer (while workin up a sweat)...
